Pure Safflower seed is a real problem solver! It’s one of the oldest oil-seeds, but has only recently been introduced as bird seed. Loved by cardinals and many other birds, safflower is not as attractive to grackles and starlings and helps keep these birds away. Squirrels avoid it too. Convert your cardinals to safflower slowly. Mix with sunflower seed, then gradually reduce the sunflower until only safflower seed remains. Once cardinals become accustomed to safflower, they prefer it over black oil sunflower seeds.
